Bluegill guts… Best catfish bait I have ever used. Pantyhose pouch wrapped over a large hook fastened with a small zip tie. Pop the hook through the pouch so the curved pointy part of the hook is exposed. I don’t recommend trying to use more than two poles. One will keep you busy. Have fun! 😁
I’m new to catfishing, but the more I examine them I think what are actually in my local lakes look more like bullheads. Will any of these baits work with those as well?

I use hot dogs soaked in crawl fish spray. I put a piece of nylon stocking over the hook. Keeps little fish from nibbling off. Sometimes, can use the same bait two or three times. On lake O the Pines

I’ve gone fishing with cheese,worms, shrimp, and yeh you can get fish that way. The best bait is electricity.
There are two types of fishing for cats: pole fishing and setline fishing. I fish 100% with setlines. I need something that will stay on the hook for 12 hours. I only use chicken gizzards. They are hard to put on the hook and hard to take off the hook (hook them in the hard fat of the gizzard). I catch around 30-40 every spring.

BAR-S HOT DOGS CUT IN 1-2 INCH CHUNKS. SOAK IN BIG RED SODA FOR 6 HOURS FRESH OR FREEZE FOR LATER. USE TREBLE HOOKS.
You are wrong there is a channel cat the one you call blue cat is only a Male channel the female is the one you call channel. The proof is easy just go noodling and you will always find a blue and a channel cat in the nest now why wouldn’t you find two blues or two channels? I have groped hundreds of pairs on the nest and always the same results a blue Male and a channel female full of eggs.
Try some boneless chicken make sure you cut the chicken up to your desired bait size. Then add garlic powder and cherry Kool-Aid or strawberry Kool-Aid. Mix it all into a bag let it sit overnight in the fridge then hook it, throw it and wait
I think everyone wants to say they have the perfect secret recipe. All I can say is, use what works for you. For me I get more strikes and commits using old stinky jumbo shrimp on a santee cooper rig. It’s stinky, oily, and attacks all sorts of fish. I’ve got big Stripers, LM Bass, and with a small bit of shrimp and the right size hook it can get them big sun fish too. Might be a bit expensive for bait, but for me nothing else has worked as well as shrimp, it’s always in my cooler when I go fishing. Now this is all bank fishing, and I am sure it changes when you go out in deeper waters.

My best one is cheery Kool-aid chicken and garlic salt mix it all up and let it marinate overnight. I’ve notice that channel catfish like the stinky stuff.
over 45 years on the water……Catfishing is something I LOVE, BUT it’s not a true "Angler" sport, as Catfish will eat damn near anything, and it takes NO SKILL whatsoever to catch them. What bait is best for Catfish? Well, the best bait is LIVE BAIT, Bluegill, Crappie, Shad, etc. etc. (I prefer Bluegill, or Crawfish).
If you don’t have live bait, use "Cut Bait", you can find various types of fish in your local grocery store or go catch your own.

I catch live bait at the boat docks and cut them ugly things up and put it on a hook throw it out and catch hella big cats. Even caught a huge azz gator gar probably about 6ft or 7ft long probably weighed under 100lbs or more but took me a good azz fight to get him to the edge of the concrete where I was standing. Sadly he ended up popping off my hook because he was just to big to get him over that concrete wall I was standing on. But shiiii If I was on like a beach land or something I would’ve pulled him onto land but picking him up with the line and hook didn’t work to well for me 😂
I like his info but esp the 1st timer? Some baits allow multi types. Channel & Blue will both scavenge on most anything stink bait etc. your chances go up more than one type at the same time. Live or fresh bait fish? All three will eat it. There again chance of hook up goes up.

best bait i ever found was when i went to the grocery store and saw some calamari that was in the sell now bin, so i bought it and left it outside for a few days. cats L O V E D it, and the squid is rubbery enough to stay on the hook really well.
