Tried fishing for the first time just a hour or two ago. Didnt even fish. Kinda set up my hook and bobber and everything the best i could had bait on it and as i casted all my line tangled. Couldnt get it untangled. Just picked everything up and left. Not a fun time and not sure if i even want to try again. Only 23 btw and no one taught me anything.
😎👍 THANKS!
You earned a sub ❤
just got into fishing and spent like 1 hour getting the line on the reel then spent 1 hour 30 minutes on a canal I knew there were fish but using badly tied knots with a worm on just 1 sinker and using the same lure for 1 hour too, this helps a lot.
anyone know how too fish good in ohio (pleasse no ohio memes)
SUPER helpful!! I used to fish with my pop but havent since i was a teenager. Now i have my own kids asking to fish so this is EXCELLENT for those of us dusting off our tackle boxes and getting back out there. Thank you!!!!
Fishing knot thing is so important, landed the biggest fish we ever caught in that area and he slid right off because of the way I tied my hook on, I was so devastated 😅
ugh😕 tawk tuah 2:15
Oh, do the new anglers a favour and stop pitching that heavy vs small gear vs fish. Everyone gets snagged and it costs cash to supply. heavier gear survives rougher terrain meaning you replace your gear less which is more cost-efficient. The only people bitching about buying big gear are the people selling crap gear.
Went fishing for my first time today and got skunked 😂 spent the whole time trying to learn to cast and tie my bait lol. So much vegetation in the lake going to try a Texas rig next to see if I have any luck
Very cool, I really like fishing. I’m from Indonesia. Greetings from a hobby, greetings from a curved fishing rod.
Thx.
I’m 44 and have never fished in my life. I was raised in southern California and about 5 min from the beach and I also work as a longshoreman on the ships and yeah I still haven’t fished. I just want around it at all growing up. I feel like I’m not too old to try something new and I’m calming down now that I’m older so fishing looks real peaceful to me to learn. I subscribed today to your channel and will be viewing your videos for help and of course tips. You explain things clearly and doesn’t seem that complicated to start as a beginner. Keep posting great videos sir I can’t wait to learn how to fish. 👍
Is there an opposite phrase to getting skunked? Cuz that’s my goal😂
good video
Fishing is always fun even if you get skunked
This is freaking awesome!!!!!
Nice work 👏🍀👌
From Indiana here , heard you said you’re from the mid west too
Could you do a vid on how to see if a fish is female or male
I fished for the 1st time yesterday, it was a beautiful experience, I had to man up and hook the worm and or hold a fish 😂
i really enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing your experiences! however, i have to say that some of your tips seem a bit too basic for seasoned anglers. i believe there are deeper techniques and strategies that could be explored to help improve our skills even more. just my two cents!
im 26 and live in the Philippines, but currently staying at saudi arabia for work and started to pick up fishing as a hobby.. id like to know more about fishing, especially knowing the proper baits to use..
strike perdana 😮
me and my friends go fishing at a lake everyday and i get skunked EVRERY DAY FOR 2 MONTHS with all types of lures and live baits
I’m 36, haven’t fished in 25 years now trying to get back into it. This was very helpful!!
how did u get all this fish
i always fished with my grandpa, but never by myself. i want to carry on his legacy after he’s gone.
Now i can finally have some closure about that texas bass even though im from sweden😂
Is it normal to get skunked 3 days in a row on a lake? 2-3 hours a day
Thanks nat for this video, and you also point out even if you’re out there and dont get anything you gain more experience and get to do something you enjoy! I wish you a great fishing life
Time I am hosting a fishing 3 day how do make hooks then podercout and fish with them this will help a lot tysm for making this video ❤❤ like pls
Thanks this lil chocolate girl trying to learn
great video! i really enjoyed the tips you shared. however, i feel like some of the mistakes you mentioned aren’t as universal as you say. every fishing spot is different, and what works for one person might not work for another. curious to hear what others think!
Great video ❤
Thanks for sharing
I have caught 2 fish in my about 1 month with a rod and 6 in a week with a basic net not one of those big ones you throw one like you hold ur catch in idk what im doing wrong
I love all of your videos. They provide a lot of good insight.
The overhand knot is great as well especially for braided line.
Yeah my first time out fishing was all just learning haha mostly got stuck on trees underwater and lost 2 baits😁 then I was kind of scared to cast because I couldn’t go deep enough at the spot I was at. River from all the flooding has snags everywhere and the water is always dirty looking
Dope video
I fished a lot as a teenager, then life got busy and I got even busier and fishing ceased to be something I did. Decades later, following a few false starts, I’ve gotten back into it but sometimes I’m not sure I should have. For one thing, when did fishing get so damn complicated? [WARNING: Long post! Might need sandwiches and something to drink before reading.😮]
Back then it was far simpler. Tie a fishermen’s eight, 12" leader, swivel, lead sinker, hook, bait and you’re good to go. Never knew anything about the league of knots, fishing line mutations, soft and hard non-gender specific bait, the value of being in drag, that the size, stiffness and even weight of your shaft actually matters as does knowing how to use it, or this anti-heavy view of the fishing community.
When I was fishing I caught Brim, Flathead, Catfish – oh so many Catfish – Toad fish, Rays, Taylor, Jewfish and a few mysteries to boot. I fished a heavy line, used wire traces, prawns, squid but had the most consistent success with garden worms and slices of bread returned to its origins – I give one of the best bread massages known to man. No exotic scents where too much of good thing is a bad thing, except when it’s not enough of a good thing that it’s a bad thing, but when it’s both or neither then…wait, where was I going with this? Anyway, gel, oil, powdered or pre-done had no idea they even existed. Burley was a thing, of course, but never bothered with it. Why would I when I was catching fish?
Pretty much exclusively used an Alvey side caster, egg-beaters were a bit exotic and too complicated to interest me. Rarely had line tangles, only lost fish due to a broken lines a handful of times. No net, just lifted them up out of the water. So what the hell happened to fishing while I was away? Even my relationships with my ex-girlfriends weren’t this complex.
The advice in the local fishing shops is contradictory and has yet to result in any success. I’d rather go window shopping with a woman than face the endless overwhelming variety of fishing products, all guaranteed to enable you to catch huge amounts of the biggest fish possible. Frankly, I’m amazed that the hook and line industry hasn’t gone out of business, seeing as some of these products give the impression that using them will cause the fish to practically jump into your lap. Though, of course, there is always the disclaimer that you have to know how to use the product properly.
At the start of my return to fishing, inspired by a YouTube video of course, I bought a used kayak and have now been on a dozen or so fishing trips, all river. First time out caught two flathead using a soft plastic lure. That was pretty cool as I’d never used one before. One Flathead slipped the hook, bounced and summersaulted out of the kayak for a perfect ten landing in the water. The other, legal size, I got to eat. However, it’s been all down hill since then. At first it was zero bites, tangled lines, a couple of capsizes, two drowned phones and various lost and or damaged gear. Last night made my latest offering to the fishing gods, another fishing rod and reel, for a current total record of four, though at least this fishing trip I actually did catch fish, three good sized ones.
The first, the line broke at the last moment just as I got it to the surface next to the kayak. Second time, same thing. Thing is, I’d brought everything but forgotten the landing net. Having had enough of this, I decided to go back for the net. However, the third fish didn’t make it to the boat, due to a line tangle. Never have I had so many of them in one night. No idea why it was the case, but the majority were so bad I had to cut the line and start again. On this occasion, it was when I was in the process of tying a double uni that I realized it was on the line. Next thing I knew it had pulled it out of my hand and that was that. Kept going for a few more hours but no more strikes. I had launched at around 2pm and quite frankly would have kept going but finally gave up and returned to shore at about 3am, after my battery decided it was too tired to keep going – wimp.
There were positives. I caught three fish. Discovered and solved a recent issue with the kayak ‘rudder’ pedals sticking. Had my first experience of bio-luminance, underwater lightening and seeing a large fish jump about three feet out of the water leaving a pool of fire behind it, glowing with witches fire and trailing behind it like a rainbow before plunging back into the water to create a new fire pool. The serene glass like surface of the river and the moon reflecting of the ocean. Plus the opportunity to test my will against the elements, in particular the long paddle back when the battery gave up – again, seriously, what an utter wimp.
If you’ve read this far, thank you for taking the time to work your way through this unintentionally long post. I appreciate this opportunity to vent, to share with those whom I’m sure will understand and sympathize with my struggles with fishing. In part, however, this is a response to the comment about everyone getting skunked from time to time. I might be wrong, although I’m probably not, that there are some of us who experience this at Olympic levels on a regular basis.
In my case, perhaps it’s because I have Adult ADHD, Bipolar 2 and have been battling chronic insomnia for the past eight or so years. Or maybe I’m simply a naturally clumsy man or one of those people who should not be fishing in the first place. It might even be that I’ve been cursed by one or all of those ex-girlfriends I previously mentioned. Whatever the case, I just want someone to know how insane my fishing trips always are – heads up, I haven’t shared the half of it in this post.
Nonetheless, I haven’t given up, at least not yet. Last night was actually an encouragement. They were big fish and it’s the first time I’ve trolled and had success doing so. Even as I write this I feel the strong desire to get back out there and take another crack at it. Actually, I’d have gone back out today except for the fact that I’ve a killer migraine, need way more sleep, have essays to grade and tomorrow it’s back to work. But next weekend, or failing that at least the one after, I’ll be heading out to potentially sacrifice another rod and reel. Worth it I reckon for the experience and the adventures to come. In fact, currently keeping my eye out for a good second-hand 4.5 meter tinny. There’s a few islands I’d like to camp out on before the year is out, not only to fish but for other reasons also.
My best to all my fellow hunters.
May your lines be strong, hooks ever sharp and your catches satisfying to the max.

Biggest mistake I made: not getting my fishing license. Not only because of the hefty fine I received 😅, but because of where the money goes. IDK what it’s like in other states, but where I’m at, all the money goes to preservation. I treat it like spending a couple bucks to say thank you to the lake
Watching this before going out fishing for my 2nd time now 😄
I intend to Fish for My Dinner!
I’m playing To Win, so i need All the Information i can get!
Thanks for Being Here, Nat!
Mantap kawan ,jos .
I just got my first rod yesterday and it’s 7ft medium heavy action cuz that’s all they had. Did I make a mistakes? I read that they’re universal rods for fresh water fishing
Good advice, thanks!
I learned 4 things 💀
How about buy a fish finder. Cheating if you ask me
